What to Feed your Parakeet

As the proud caretaker of three parakeets, I invest lots of research and money into their well-being. One majorly important factor of their health is their diet. Unfortunately, this is often overlooked by inexperienced bird owners, and they think that just because the label says “premium” their birds can thrive eating only that. Well, if that’s what you believe here’s a news flash: your birds shouldn’t be eating the exact same thing every day! As convenient as it may be, it’s boring and unhealthy for them.

So what should you be feeding them? Well, as the staple of their diet you should find a natural and well-balanced seed or pellet mix. (Click here to see a few examples) Your birds also need fruits and veggies as often as you can provide them! They can eat a variety of foods that are cheap and common, such as…

Leafy Greens:

Spinach: Nutrition, health benefits, and diet

  • Spinach
  • Romaine lettuce
  • Dandelion greens
  • Turnip leaves

Carrots Allergies in Dogs - Symptoms, Causes, Diagnosis ...

  • Asparagus
  • Carrots
  • Sweet corn
  • Zucchini
  • Squash
  • Broccoli
  • Pumpkin

Fruits: (Make sure to thinly slice them and mop up any juices before feeding them to your bird)

Why Strawberries Are the Ideal Low-Carb Fruits

  • Apples
  • Tangerines
  • Melons
  • Strawberries
  • Bananas
  • Tropical fruits

It only takes a little extra effort to greatly enhance the quality of your bird’s life. Pets are part of the family, and they should be cared for as such! Even simply combining different seed mixtures helps bring variety, and every little thing helps. I hope you will put this information to good use and help your feathery friends thrive!
